With the American literary industry moving in the direction of stagnation, every day more and more young, aspiring authors like me get turned down by literary agencies when our books do not fit the impossibly thin niche of what is popular. Profit, not diversity, not creativity, is the force that drives not only this industry, but the gaming industry as well. But thanks to technology and platforms like Steam and Kindle, soon every artist will discover that we do in fact have a place in the world.
And so I present to you the Children's War, my first literary sci-fi novel now available for purchase on the Kindle network. In short, it is a tale about a girl who goes to war. But really, it is a story made to take us inside the mind of a soldier. The mind of a human who returns from the killing field each day with a little less of her humanity intact. It is a story about death and dying, but also about finding beauty and love amidst the ruin that Mankind has brought upon itself.
Narrated by the young pilot Clarion Maddox, the Children's War is a reflection of the events that unfold during the first world war ever to be conducted in space. After several of the Earth's public space colonies are invaded by the autocratic Northern System, a private country of colonies beyond the planet's atmosphere, the global military sends it's troops in to execute a brief, efficient cleanup operation. However, this ill-planned maneuver swiftly escalates to a full scale war, and as the conflict progresses towards it's crescendo, Clarion and her four closest comrades must fight not for their lives, but to hold onto their humanity, their identities, and most of all, each other. It is not the war itself that drives Clarion, but her internal struggle to fight against the trauma, the horror, that begins to unravel her even as the people around her are already succumbing to it. And as the Earth's military continues to lose control of the fighting, Clarion is forced to decide whether she will allow herself to die in battle or if she will forge on, continuing to exist in a ruined world. Her inner reflections of the conflict around her continue to dip deeper into despair, revealing to her the most basic truths of humanity; that even the strong and steadfast cannot survive forever in the face of the brutality that wars offer them, and eventually every soldier, every human, will crumble beneath the burden. Only the shy, uncertain affection of her closest friend, a fellow pilot who also bears the mental and physical scars of the war, continues to give her a reason to keep walking the tortured path of a soldier.

Crush my heart into embers, and I will reignite.
Well. It's been one hell of a three months.
I haven't uploaded any deviations in longer than I care to admit. I haven't written anything since October. I haven't made any art really. But neither is my life anything like it was when I was still doing those things.
I graduated college in September, took my national exam, and just got a full time RN (registered nurse) position at a great hospital about an hour from where I'm living right now, which is regrettably, with my parents. The search has been daunting as a motherfucker. Drove up to South Dakota from Colorado (7 hours alone both ways) for two interviews, and the morning I got offered bo
Tomorrow is either the last day of my old life...
Or the first day of my new one.
Tomorrow is my last day of college. I graduate the week after, though many compounding circumstances have caused me to decline attending the ceremony. Yesterday was my birthday (I turned twenty-three. Feels old.), and so today was an odd day of reflection that didn't really sink in until I was driving home. I thought I would feel smug and triumphant because I made it out of that hellhole, but I ended up with mostly just a peaceful feeling as I was driving. I thought I was going to try as hard as I could, do anything it took, to get a job in the town in Colorado where I did my first two years at a university. B

Twenty-five.
I drew my rifle closer, the unforgiving metal of her scope burning the skin around my eye with the unimaginable frigidity of Apollo.
Fifteen.
I felt her smooth, slender body in my hands. The polished grain of her skin on mine. Wondered what the person on the other end of the officer's radio would think when they heard the thunderous snap of her voice.
Five.
My fingertips caressed the familiar curve of her trigger and my body tensed, awaiting the loving buck of her form convulsing against me. The world turned into silence.

Curiosity
Sitting here in my sweaty-hot apartment, the mixture of being kind of sleepy, alone, and in a creative mood has me doing some more artistic soul searching. Wondering if I'll suck it up and design a cover for Long Live the King--I was feeling for a while pretty down about my digital art, but what the hell, what good is being an artist if I can't put it to use?
I have a curiosity. To those of you, my friends and watchers who have read any of my work--what kinds of things, maybe things you've enjoyed from my other works, or something totally new, would you like to see included or expanded on in my next book Guardian? Could be a theme, something

Yay! Look forward to seeing it all out, and you a real published author!
